Treasures

Think I've had a case of spring fever this week. I thought about writing, but didn't get much done. The weather has been so gloriously beautiful. The gardens are flourishing, and a mother duck strolled through the yard this morning with 14 babies in tow! We took photos, which I'll share soon.

For now, here are a few photos I took on a chilly day a couple of weeks ago.

This stash hangs out in my office/studio. There are a few of the dolls my doll-collector grandmother gave me and rag dolls that belonged to my mom. The vintage ribbon spools in front are also from the same grandmother. Both of my grandmothers fascinated me. The collector grandmother also made quilts. Her quilts inspired me to make my first quilt at age 17. I still have it - for better or worse. It is hideous.

This antique secretary belongs to Jungle's mom. She is in assisted living now, so we gave it a place of honor. I love the way the craftsman chose the contrasting veneers for the front panels.

More random stuff - My favorite vintage items are the ones people used every day. A couple of the vintage canning jars contain wooden spools of sewing thread. The stuffed animal is one my grandmother gave me when I was eight - my Velveteen Rabbit...er...doggy-bear.

Sometimes I wonder which gifts or other items, my sons and grandchildren will treasure when they are my age. My collector grandmother had a way of just giving us anything we admired. It wasn't a bad plan. It always made me feel sort of guilty, though.

Okay, enough rambling. TGIF - enjoy your weekend.
